Various PPE are required in the steel fabrication industry, including while during hot work. Hot work operations at Cogbill include, but are not limited to:

1. Cutting: CNC Plasma tables, hand-held plasma and oxy-acetylene torches, saws, cutting disks, etc.

2. Grinding: Hand-held grinders, bench grinders, etc.

3. Tacking & Welding: GMAW, FCAW, SMAW, GTAW, etc.

To protect our employees, we require them to follow these PPE guidelines while doing hot work:

  • Steel-Toe Boots, preferably leather (to protect against electric shock, heat, burns, fires).

  • Fire-retardant pants and long sleeve shirts (to protect against heat, fires, burns, and radiation).

  • Insulated Gloves (to protect against electric shock, heat, burns, fires).

  • Ear Plugs (to protect against noise and sparks or splatter going into the ears).

  • Welding Helmet, Face Shield, Safety Glasses, or Goggles (to protect from radiation, flying debris, sparks, intense light, irritation and chemical burns).
