Though the odds of being in the situation of an active shooter are very slim, it is an advantage to have some sense of preparedness in case a situation were ever to arise. Active shooting situations often occur for 10-15 minutes before law enforcement even arrives. Therefore, you must always try to be mentally and physically aware and prepared to respond. A good thing to keep in mind when in a life threatening situation is to Run, Hide, or Fight.

RUN and evacuate

  • If possible, make getting away from the shooter your first move

  • Do not hesitate or attempt to take your belongings, leave them behind

  • Try to help others if they will listen

  • Warn others you may see on your way out

  • Call 9-1-1 once you are at a safe location

HIDE if there is no where to run

  • Stay quiet: do not make any noise and silence cell phones

  • Lock and block all doors

  • Hide behind large objects that blocks you from the shooters view and blocks off any potential shots fired in your direction

FIGHT as your last resort

  • Commit and act aggressive as possible

  • Throw items

  • Make makeshift weapons

  • Spray aerosol products into the atacker’s eyes

  • Be prepared to cause severe or lethal harm to the shooter

Once law enforcement has arrived, remain calm, identify yourself, and stay where you are so they do not think you are a possible threat. Abide by their commands and give them any information to enable them to end the incedent if it is stillactive when they arrive
