SAFETY MEETING – Hurricane Preparation

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is predicting a relatively normal hurricane season this year. However, nature can change in the blink of an eye, so our team has a hurricane preparation and safety plan in action. We endured the destruction of Hurricane Harvey, the second-most costly hurricane to hit the U.S. mainland since 1990. We’re well-acquainted with fast, effective and safe reaction to natural disasters and assuring our community gets back on its feet.   cogbill construction sheet metal steel fabrication sheet roller plasma table welding setx industrial hurricane harvey flood waters house underwater

Cogbill Construction Project Manager, Steve Hart, prepares his team every year with a hurricane preparation packet that contains:

  – Hurricane tracking chart and severe weather guide – Checklist for items needed if staying or leaving the area – Inland evacuation map of Southeast Texas – Team contact phone number list   With the first official warnings of a hurricane, we make a plan of safe execution. We plan accordingly for our shop, securing windows and sliding doors; moving material, machinery and other pieces of equipment inside so they don’t pose a hazard should they remain in the severe weather. Most importantly, we make a plan with each team member. We want to keep our lines of communication open so that everyone’s unique situations are considered and facilitated. If our work family is well prepared and taken care of during an emergency, they are more capable of returning to their daily routines faster. Natural disaster accidents can happen. How we prepare and respond sets us apart and allows us to continue on in a safe and productive manner. We take the same approach with safety in our shop, preparing and responding effectively to accidents and emergencies at all times.
